October School Holiday Workshops

ccs-logo-auckland-council

These holidays we’re springing into spring with an exciting new line-up of drama workshops! With the kind support of the Creative Communities Scheme, we’re offering two series of workshops (for 6 – 9 year olds, and 10 – 14 year olds) in the second week of the October school holidays. Each workshop is a self-contained day with a central theme, finishing with a showcase by the kids at 3pm for their parents and caregivers. The students gain confidence, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills through fun games and exercises taught by the experienced Brickworks drama tutors.

Details and enrolment information below:

When: Mon 5th – 9th October

Time: 9am – 3.30pm each day

Where: The Chapel (cnr Waipani and Beach Rds), Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland.

*If Covid-19 Level 2.5 (10 person) restrictions are still in place, these workshops will be limited to classes of 8 children per day. There will be a waiting list in the hope that we can schedule normal class sizes.

What: We run a self-contained workshop each day, so single-day bookings are fine. Every day finishes with a 3:00pm showcase by the kids for their friends and family.

Workshop Descriptions

Monday 05 Oct: “Enchanted Castle” (Physical theatre)

Magical and mysterious creatures live inside an enchanted castle. We’ll see how they move; what they eat; and what they get up to in this marvellous place when the humans aren’t around!

Tuesday 06 Oct: “Ditch the Script!” (Improvisation)

A day of leaping in and making up stories as we go. We’ll start with our favourite improv games and work up to creating unscripted scenes. Mistakes and muck-ups make it even more fun! Laughter guaranteed.

Wednesday 07 Oct: “It’s in the Bag!” (Storytelling)

Today we take our inspiration from the “mystery bags” containing weird and wonderful props and costumes. We can’t wait to see the stories and characters that will emerge!

Thursday 08 Oct: “Dr Seuss Festival” (Devising)

Who wants to be The Cat in the Hat? Or Horton? Or maybe Thing one or Two? Students re-enact (and adapt) their favourite Dr. Seuss moments. Check out our Dr. Seuss books or bring along your own!

Friday 09 Oct: “TAP News” (Screen Acting)

What’s the latest news in Te Atatu Peninsula? How to keep up with the breaking stories? Never fear, “TAP News” is here. Today our young reporters will write and film some cracking local stories. Tune in at 3pm…

Cost: $50 per day (single day bookings available).
