Meri Kirihimete – Holiday Workshops – a Christmas Funny!

Meri Kirihimete Brickworks Whānau! Wishing you a safe and happy festive season! We’ll be running drama workshops for one week in January: Mon 18th – Fri 22nd Jan. Individual day bookings are available and we will open enrolments before the New Year (and post again to let you know).

And here’s what’s making us laugh this Christmas – the SNL “Mom Got a Robe” sketch. It’s not too late to avoid this scenario, people!

October School Holiday Workshops

In Week Two of the October School Holidays we will be running our popular drama workshops again! With the kind support of the Creative Communities Scheme, we’re offering two workshops – for 6 – 9 year olds, and 10 – 14 year olds. Each workshop is a self-contained day with a central theme, finishing with a showcase by the kids at 3pm for their parents and caregivers. The students gain confidence, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills through fun games and exercises taught by the experienced Brickworks drama tutors.

For more info and to enrol, please go to our October School Holiday Workshops page.

Term Two online!

Selfish Elf Film Squad – Enrolments open!

Kia ora koutou Brickworks whānau,

We’re excited to share with you this six week course we’ve created for Term Two! (Info on how to enrol at the bottom of the email.)

We’re excited to share with you this six week course we’ve created for Term Two!
We’re calling it the “Selfish Elf Film Squad”. Why? Because this course will be preparing us all to shoot Brickworks’ first ever short film in Term Three! We have just received Creative Communities funding for an idea we pitched at the start of the year. It’s about Christmas in Te Atatu Peninsula!
As always we will be collaborating with Wild Things Art School on the sets, and hope to work with local film and TV professionals to shoot and edit the film. In Term Four we will hold a special premiere evening at The Chapel.
We’re spending Term Two working on it with the kids – developing the characters, the script, and the look of the film. We think it will be nice to focus on a time when we can all come together again.

Facebook Group and Drama Lockdown Activities

Kia ora Brickworks whānau,
we’d love to keep in touch with our Brickworks community at this challenging time, and let the kids share their creativity with each other. We miss you guys!
Soooo… each week we’ll be inviting Brickworks kids and their families to complete a cool drama activity and share it with us online. To this end we’ve created a Brickworks Drama Group (closed – members only) on Facebook – a place where parents/caregivers can help their kids share their work and see what their friends have been up to.
You can request to join the group by clicking here
Hope to see you there!

April School Holidays cancelled

We’re sorry to say that due to Covid-19 our April School Holiday workshops have been cancelled. Stay safe and stay home! Kids – call someone who’s alone and read them a story you’ve written! Drama is storytelling, and we need stories right now 🙂

Taking a break

Kia ora Brickworks whānau,

In light of the most recent announcements from the Ministry of Health we have decided to do our part to “flatten the curve” and cancel the last three weeks of drama lessons this term. While we do gather in groups of less than 100, the nature of drama exercises makes social distancing tricky, and we are not an essential activity like school. So we think it’s in the best interests of our beautiful community to take a break.

We can offer you a credit for these classes, or a refund. Please let us know what you prefer. We will have these all loaded and processed by the end of term.

Our ability to offer you the April School Holiday Workshops (20 – 24 April) is now uncertain, but we will keep you informed about this.

With love,
Lauren and Natascha

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update: the health and welfare of our whānau and communities is super super important to us. We are monitoring and managing any potential risks, and updating our procedures as needed. More information on COVID-19 can be found on the Ministry of Health website and Nanogirl has two great videos that explain Coronavirus and handwashing to kids in a reassuring way 🙂

July School Holiday Workshops just around the corner…

How is it winter already? We are staying nice and cosy at The Chapel and have had a hilarious Term Two, as we all focus on our Improvisation skills. We’ve seen some wonderful characters and whacky scenarios played out this term 🙂

We are now taking enrolments for our July School Holiday workshops! We have an awesome programme lined up for Week 2 of the holidays (16 – 20 July) and hope to see lots of our students and some new faces too! Each day ends with a 2.30pm showing so we can share the day’s learning with our friends and family. For more information check out our July School Holidays page then head over to EnrolMy to book in.
