There’s been a fire at the Shangri La jazz club, leaving Te Atatū’s most exclusive hot spot in ruins. For Detective Ally, this case is personal. Her parents, Louis and Vuitton, own the club and practically raised Ally there! Unfortunately, they made plenty of enemies along the way, and it’s up to Ally to figure out who has wreaked their revenge.

Huge thanks to the Creative Communities Scheme

Enrolments for Term 3 now open! Annual production underway…

Enrolments now open!

We have a very special project kicking off this coming term – Brickworks’ annual full school production.

This year we’ll be performing in the Rutherford College school hall!

We love this part of the year – it’s inclusive, very fun, and a great way to bring the whole Brickworks community together. This will be our ninth production and mark Brickworks Drama’s 10 Year Anniversary!

The tutors will workshop ideas with the kids at the start of Term 3, then write an original play based on scenes they have helped us devise. The kids feel a lot of pride in their contributions to the final script, and we love following their imaginations! This year we are thinking of a mystery theme – The Case of the Missing [fill in the blank] or similar! The kids are keen, and we can’t wait to get started.

In the past, we have run into overlapping dates with winter sports prizegivings. To avoid this, we are going to rehearse all of Term 3 and perform at the beginning of Term 4. The show will go on at the end of Week 2, Term 4.

What does this mean? You will need to enrol your child in both Terms 3 and 4 this year, if you would like them to be involved in the production.

For those who can’t attend Term 3 (and therefore can’t be involved in the production), we will also be accepting late enrolments for Term 4, meaning you can join us from Week 3, Term 4 onwards for some end of year fun at a slightly reduced rate.

So, if you are keen to enrol for Terms 3 and 4 and be involved in the production, please be aware you are also committing to three days of weekend rehearsals which are:

Term Three

Sunday 21st September – part day for rehearsals

*last Sunday of Term 3

Term Four
Sunday 12th Oct – all day for tech rehearsals
Saturday 18th Oct – all day for dress rehearsal, then final performance in the afternoon

We can’t emphasise enough how important these rehearsals are. It’s the only time we can bring all the classes together to run the show, and these are the days when a lot of the important pieces of the puzzle fall into place. Please only enrol if you can attend these rehearsals.

The rest of Term Four will have a Storytelling theme designed to be low stress and lots of fun as the silly season kicks in around us!

We can’t wait to see your children shine on stage and bring this unique production to life. Thank you for your continuous support, and we look forward to an amazing term of creativity and rehearsals!

Tuesday 8 July – “Lost in Space!” (Physical Theatre)

When you build a spaceship, don’t forget your maps! Today we’re making rockets and blasting off, but oh no! What happens if we get lost in space? Will we meet a friendly alien or the Man in the Moon? Friday 11 July – “Dear Dom” Advice Show (Improvisation)

Today we’re imagining there’s a 12 year old kid named Dom who gives out the best advice on popular TV show “Dear Dom”. We’ll all dream up letters to write to Dom – common, everyday problems that kids face… Using props and costumes, we’ll act out the problems along with the solutions Dom offers.

Enrolments now open for Term Two 2025!

The theme for Term Two is Improvisation. What makes improvisation such an exciting part of drama? It’s all about thinking on your feet! In Term Two, we’ll dive into the world of improv — learning to trust our instincts, say “yes, and…”, and create spontaneous stories together. Through quick-thinking games, playful character building, and unexpected scenarios, students will build confidence, flexibility, and teamwork. Whether it’s inventing a scene from a single word or turning a mistake into a masterpiece, this term is all about embracing the unknown and having a blast doing it!

Term 3 Production!

With the wonderful support of the Creative Communities Scheme, we’re thrilled to announce our traditional yearly show for children to participate in and perform! This will be our eighth production, and we’re incredibly excited to create a captivating story that takes place backstage! Yes, this time, we want to give our students the unique opportunity to tell the story of all the little moments that happen while creating a show and what goes on behind the curtains during a performance. It’s metatheatre at its best!

Our approach this year is to start the term with an outline of the scenes and then workshop them with the kids to create the final script. This method gives the children a strong sense of input and ownership, resulting in a far more engaging and entertaining script! The performance is an opportunity for students to showcase the skills they’ve developed over time in their drama classes with us.

We are also excited to announce a change of venue! For the first time, Brickworks Drama School will perform on the Te Atatu Intermediate stage. Please note that there will be two extra rehearsals (free of charge) on Saturday, 14th September, and Saturday, 21st September. These rehearsals are compulsory, and the Performance Day will be on Saturday, 28th September.*It is crucial for all students to attend these rehearsals and regular class sessions. Please consider this when planning your child’s schedule if they are involved in other activities that might conflict with these times. This term is all about team effort!*

We can’t wait to see your children shine on stage and bring this unique production to life. Thank you for your continuous support, and we look forward to an amazing term of creativity and performance!
